Performing Arts
Dance, Drama and Music are taught as discrete subjects here at SHSSFC and are nurtured under the umbrella of Performing Arts. Our focus is always on raising standards alongside pupil engagement and enjoyment, and to this end we teach in a range of styles and with a range of resources. We have an extremely busy calendar of performance opportunities – both public and examination events – where a huge proportion of the school community participates and supports in the audience. Every summer there is a whole school production, open to pupils from each year group. Auditions for this generally take place in January, with rehearsals beginning soon after. We strive to make alternate productions musical and ’straight’ drama so that those pupils who do not sing and dance have opportunities to experience being part of a theatre company as much as those who wish to participate in a piece of dynamic musical theatre. You can see photographs of productions from the past few years under ‘Enrichments’ (School Productions). In addition to the summer show there are music concerts and recitals throughout the year, and dance events to showcase our pupils’ talents. Performance evenings of Drama for GCSE and A Level examinations take place in Drama Studio 1, with other events generally in the Hall. Details of upcoming performances are highlighted in the Head teacher’s newsletters, which are posted on the home page and distributed to all parents. We are incredibly proud of our Performing Arts provision here and strive to improve facilities and resources in order to give the girls a memorable and worthwhile education in all three disciplines. We have experienced something of a ‘renaissance’ recently and are thoroughly enjoying the opportunities that this brings. If you have any questions regarding each subject area please do not hesitate to get in touch.
