Open events are held during the Summer and Autumn terms for prospective Year 7 students and their parents. This gives an opportunity for everyone to see our school and meet staff. All students who are offered places are then invited to spend two days in school shortly before they join us in September. This helps them to feel comfortable in their new surroundings and to get to know each other and their teachers.

Quite often new students arrive during the course of a school year. The parents of these students, and the students themselves, are welcomed, interviewed and shown round the school by a senior member of staff who is responsible for making all necessary arrangements for admission. These students are supported to ensure a smooth transition and positive start.

Consultation on proposed admission arrangements for the 2020/21 academic year

The Trustees of Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College are consulting on the Academy’s admission arrangements. These arrangements are for students who will be starting in Year 7 in September 2020, or requesting admission to the Academy between September 2020 and July 2021. The consultation is taking place for a period of six weeks, between 7th December 2018 and 18th January 2019. The Trustees of Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College are responsible for offering or refusing places at the Academy. We would welcome your views on the proposed change.

The proposed change is as follows:

  1. To increase the Published Admission Numbers (PAN)  from 210 girls to 240 girls.

There are no other changes to the policy.

Proposed Expansion

Sandbach Secondary Schools

The Local Authority has a statutory duty to provide sufficient school places for children resident in its area. An analysis of the latest pupil forecasts has identified the need to provide an additional 300 secondary school places in Sandbach in response to increasing pupil population from housing developments. Following discussions with the Local Authority, the Academy Trusts at Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College and Sandbach School have considered the need for extra school places in the area and have agreed to publish expansion proposals.

The proposal is to expand by schools by 150 places each for years 7-11.Further information regarding the rationale for expansion can be found in the consultation document.

Applications for Year 7 – September 2019

Parents with children transferring to secondary education in September 2019 are able to apply for a school place from 1 September 2018.  Information booklets Applying for School Places and the Secondary Schools, UTC and Studio Schools supplement are available online at www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/schools/admissions.

Parents residing in the Cheshire East area must apply using the application form provided by the local authority.  It is important that you submit your application by the deadline of 31 October 2018 to avoid any unnecessary disappointment with your school preferences.  The preferred method of application is online via the Cheshire East website.  This offers the benefit of being able to view the decision regarding your application on the published offer date, 1 March 2019, rather than having to wait for a letter to be received in the post.  If you do not have access to the internet, please contact Cheshire East Council on the telephone number below.

Even if you wish your child to attend a local school, parents must still submit an application.

Parents are able to express three school preferences ranked in order of priority.  All preferences will be considered on the basis of equal preferences (see Applying for School Places booklet for further details).

There will be the opportunity to appeal against the decision if a place at the preferred school is not offered.

If you plan to apply for a Cheshire East school, but you do not live in the area, you must apply on your ‘home’ local authority’s application form.

Admissions Policies

Academies such as ours act as their own admission authority, applying their own admission criteria as detailed in the policies below. However, all parents will only have to fill in one application form and will receive their offer from the LA in whose area they live. The Common Application Form (CAF) must be used by all Cheshire parents applying for a school place, whether inside or outside Cheshire.
