Exam Tips - on Exam Day

Exam Tips – On Exam Day

  • Make sure you have all the equipment you need for your exam in a transparent pencil case.
  • Arrive outside your exam room at least 15 minutes before the start time identified on your timetable.
  • Check the seating plan outside the exam room to make sure there are no last minute changes. Make sure you sit in the correct seat.
  • Learn your candidate number.
  • You may bring a drink of water to the exam room but make sure it is in a clear bottle with no label.
  • Do not bring any food into the exam room.
  • Do not bring mobile phones, iPods, mp3 players, watches, AirPods, earphones/earbuds or headphones into the exam room. If you forget, ensure they are switched off and handed to an invigilator before you take your seat.
  • All personal belongings, such as coats and bags etc, will not be allowed in the exam room and must be kept in the designated area or your locker.
  • If you need assistance, raise your hand – an invigilator will help.
  • If you’re too ill to attend an exam, your parent/carer must inform the school office before 8.30am on the day. You will not be permitted to sit the exam on another day, so it is recommended that you try to get a doctor’s note to the Exams Officer can try to apply for Special Consideration on your behalf.
  • If you are delayed, you must contact the school as soon as possible. Students who arrive very late may still be permitted to sit the exam, but a report must be sent to the Exam Board and they could refuse to accept your work. You must report to reception upon arrival.
  • If you have any worries or questions about any aspect of your exams please see the Exams Officer, Mrs Emma Harris. This short animated video offers additional guidance on how to be prepared for your written exams: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sifbrx9_do4

After the Exams

After the Exams

Special Consideration

Your performance in an exam can sometimes be affected by adverse circumstance, such as recent bereavement or recent illness. Exam Boards do make allowances in certain situations providing the school has appropriate supporting evidence. Please speak to the Exams Officer, Mrs Emma Harris, as soon as possible if you think this may apply to you.

Results

Students will be able to collect their results on the morning of the results days. Students will be sent information regarding these dates and times and they will also be listed on our social media platforms. Results will only be issued to the student to whom they belong. For those students unable to collect their results in person, results will be emailed out later in the day.

 Certificates

You will be notified by school when certificates are available to collect. For students that leave the school and no longer have access to school email addresses, notifications of the dates they are available for collection will be posted on social media. Certificates for the summer exams are usually ready for collection by the beginning of December.

If you are unable to collect your certificates in person, a relative or a friend can collect them for you, please email the Exams Officer, Mrs Emma Harris, giving permission for a named individual to collect your certificates on your behalf. That person must bring photo ID with them.

Exam certificates are extremely important legal documents – please keep them safe. If you lose your certificates you will need to contact the Exam Boards directly to arrange for a replacement.

NEA procedure

Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College is committed to ensuring that whenever its staff mark candidates’ work this is done fairly, consistently and in accordance with the awarding body’s specification and subject-specific associated documents.

Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College ensures that all centre staff follow a robust policy for the management of GCE and GCSE non-examination assessments. More information can be found in the Internal Appeals procedure document which can be downloaded at the bottom of this webpage.

Please find below the deadlines for 2023/24 none examined assessments.

Please note these are last years fees and are subject to change.

It is important to note that you would be charged for each paper for which you request a Clerical Check or a Review of Marking.

If you request Access to Scripts, you will receive a copy of your exam paper, if you wish it to be looked at by your teacher(s), you will need to approach them to do this. It will not be forwarded to your teacher(s) automatically and does not form part of the process. Please note, staff may not be able to accommodate this request ahead of the deadline for a Clerical Check / Review of Marking if insufficient notice is given.

Parent/carer email addresses are requested in relation to payment queries. Copies of exam scripts and/or results of Clerical Checks / Reviews of Marking will only be shared with candidates for data protection purposes.

A hard copy of the completed form, or an electronic copy of the completed form should be submitted to the Exams Officer in school, or via email (eharris@sandbachhigh.co.uk) no later than the deadlines stated above. For us to accept an electronic copy of the form, it must be signed by the student or sent from the student’s school email address.

As we are a cashless school, payment should be made either via Bank Transfer or via card machine. When paying via Bank Transfer please use the details provided in the letter below and ensure you check you have chosen the correct amount appropriate to the exam board and post-result service you require.

A card machine will be available at the school on results day, and will then be available in school.

Once both the form and payment have been received, the Exams Officer will make the request to the exam board. Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me on eharris@sandbachhigh.co.uk.

Certificates

Certificates

If you sat your exams and completed your qualification in May/June your certificate will be ready for collection by the end of November.

If you took the GCSE English or Maths resit exams in November your certificates will be ready for collection by the middle of March.

When collecting your results (see results section for dates), please provide us with an alternative contact email (other than your school email address) so we can contact you when your certificates are ready for collection.

Collection of your certificates

As qualification certificates are legal documents they need to be collected in person - we do not post out certificates.  Certificates need to be signed for upon collection.

Certificates can be collected from the Exams Officer between 8.30am and 3.30pm each school day. Please bring photo ID when collecting your certificates.

If you are unable to collect your certificates in person, you can nominate someone to collect them on your behalf. To do this please send an email to eharris@sandbachhigh.co.uk giving consent for a named individual to collect the certificates on your behalf. The nominated person, would need to bring photo ID with them when they come to collect the certificates.

Mislaid certificates

If you have collected your certificates from us, but have mislaid them you will need to contact the exam boards directly to obtain replacements. Please note, exam boards charge a fee for replacing certificates. The contact details for the exam boards are:
